About

Hi, my name is Sydnee, and I'm a fantasy author going by the pen name S. H. Blodgett. My first book was written in 2020. Since then, I've enjoyed every moment of my writing career.

I write dark high fantasy: wars worth bleeding for, survival that costs something, characters who compromise more than they'd like, with a closed-door heart woven through rather than shouted from the cover. The romance is there. It's just not the reason the world is on fire.

When I'm not lost in my writing world, you can find me hanging out with my amazing husband, our (adorable!) tiny human who recently joined our ranks, and our super lively 5-year-old German Shepherd. They are my world. My husband currently serves in the Army, making me a military spouse of seven years. What a wild time it has been. We've moved on average once a year since we married in 2019.

I read far too many books, love diving into video games, and enjoy a good hike, especially in some stunning places. I've recently moved to Washington state, and let me tell you, it's gorgeous out here.

I also draw the worlds I write, which means the art you see across this site isn't stock. It's mine, straight from the same place the stories come from.

So, that's me: living life, enjoying the journey, and hoping my stories find a little corner in your world too.

Fun Facts

Writing ritual: I write most in the late morning, with a cup of locally roasted coffee and a playlist paired with the scene I'm writing.
Why I started writing: My husband was gone for military training while we lived in Germany. Covid hit, and I needed something to motivate me through the hard time. Turning to writing was the best decision I ever made!
What I love to write (and read): All things character-driven, high-stakes, some romance, and an epic plot to guide it all together.
Character I'd least want to meet in real life: Kenji Haru. He just has a punchable air about him!
Currently playing: Call of Duty: Warzone. I love to run with a close-knit group of friends!
Favorite hiking season: The Cascades have so many beautiful hikes, I couldn't possibly name a favorite. But during winter, when the lakes are frozen and evergreens are snow-crusted, that's my favorite time. It reminds me of Skyrim mountains!
Comfort show: Gilmore Girls! The mother-daughter relationship is my absolute favorite, and I love the banter! (And yes, I'm so mad Rory didn't marry Logan!)
Coffee or tea: Both! I love home-roasted coffee (my husband makes the BEST!), and a cinnamon-orange tea from a place in Seattle. Earl Grey and English Breakfast are my other favorites!
A random fact: I worked at a summer camp right after high school, and I got to help teach paintball to campers. It was a blast, literally!
World I'd live in: Rise of the Fallen Bloodline, out of all the series. It's by far the safest!

How spicy are your books?

They're not, on purpose. Every book is closed door / fade to black: all the tension, longing, and ache, none of the explicit. If you've been searching for "romantasy without spice," welcome home.

Are they appropriate for younger readers?

The romance is closed-door, but the fantasy runs dark: war, captivity, betrayal, and loss are on the page. Think New Adult. Each book has its own content notes so you can choose with confidence.

Do I need to read the series in order?

Yes, each series tells one continuous story. Reading order lives on every series page. The three series all live in the same universe (the Veil) but can be read independently, in any order.

What formats are available?
